Keivan Mehregan

Keivan Mehregan, 33, is a poet and journalis . In his 12 years of work experience he has been working with some of the reformist media outlets including Etemad, Sarmayeh and Shargh. Some of his books of poetry which have been published include: You and Road Are Hands in a Glove, My Mouth Smells Maryam and The Unmasked Lover Becomes a Prophet.
First Arrest
Keivan Mehregan was the editor of political supplement of Etemad Newspaper when he was imprisoned on the day after the mass protests of Ashura Day 2009 for the first time. Two days later he was able to inform the outside world of his arrest and imprisonment. At the time he was confined to single person cell in ward 209 of Evin Prison, where he was interrogated and constant pressure was applied to him mainly because of his membership in Nehzat-e- Azadi Party. After 55 days he was transferred to a two-person cell. Keivan was bailed on 100 million Tomans on February 26th.
Charges and Convictions
Due to the above- mentioned activities he was tried in the Revolutionary Court on November 2010 and due to his press activities he was condemned to three years suspended jail applicable for up to 4 years.
Second Arrest
Keivan Mehregan was arrested a second time in December the 7th 2010 along with several other journalists. The Shargh Newspaper office was raided by Intelligence Service officers and as editor of political service of that paper he was arrested and held for 40 days in a solitary cell in ward 209 of Evin Prison. He was released from Evin in January the 17th on 10 millions Tomans bail.
Third Arrest

On June the 13th 2011, the funeral for Hoda Saber, who had died under suspicious circumstances in Evin Prison, was attended by Keivan Mehregan where he was arrested for a third time.
Charges and Convictions
In March 2011 the Islamic Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Salavati condemned Mehregan to another year of pre-emptive imprisonment. At the time he was also deprived of press, political and web activities for 5 years. His charge, ‘propaganda activity against the system’ was confirmed by an appeal court.
Fourth Arrest

January the 28th 2013 saw the orchestrated arrest of many journalists across the country including Keivan Mehregan who was taken to Evin to serve his sentence. The Intelligence Service and many government- friendly media outlets made overly harsh and outlandish accusations against these journalists.
