The infighting within the Iranian regime spilled into the open on
Sunday in parliament over the impeachment of a minister with the heads
of executive and legislative branches attacking one another.
The brawl occurred in a heated session convened to remove the labor and
social welfare minister, Abdolreza Sheikholeslam. The minister had
refused to sack Saeed Mortazavi Tehran's notorious former prosecutor.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the regime’s President, questioned the impeachment
and when members of parliament voted to remove the Minister,
Ahmadinejad accused the Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his brother
who heads the judiciary of cronyism.
Ahmadinejad played a
recording of a conversation with Larijani’s brother, Fazel Larijani, who
attempted to bribe Mortazavi by asking for a favor in exchange for
support by parliament and the judiciary.
Ali Larijani accused
Ahmadinejad of using the tape as a "threat" to hamper the impeachment
process in response and described the conduct of regime’s president as
Mafia-like.
